Newbie Question about WADS and MAPINFO (pertaining to D64EX)
(1/1)
Defilant:
What I'm trying to do is change the level name, and the music, for my map. I've skimmed the forums a bit and discovered that D64EX supports MAPINFO and that the maps in the WAD are stored as individual WADS. What I don't understand is how I go about editing a map WAD (or the D64 iwad) to alter the MAPINFO file. SlumpED won't let me "Save As" an iwad (which, after a quick Google search, I discovered is "bad practice"). Is it something I can embed within the Map's own WAD or do I need to alter the parent D64EX wad for the changes I want to to go into effect? The entire process is a bit befuddling to me. Can anyone explain it to me in a simpler fashion?

There's no need (and it's a really bad idea, as google said) to modify the iwad.
What you have to do is open your pwad in slumped and create a new lump called mapinfo. Anything you put into your pwad mapinfo will overrule the iwad.
If you have more than one map for your pwad, you follow the way the iwad has things set up. Each level is imported by slumped as a separate wad inside your pwad. All mapinfo information goes into a single lump for the whole pwad, no matter how many levels you have. Just like how the iwad does it.
