Ceiling texture stretching issue

(1/1)

Loke:
Hi.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of activity around these parts sadly but I hope Kaiser or another soul will find this topic eventually.
I'm currently in the process of building a map for EX since I'm a big fan of the original Doom 64, but to get to the subject at hand, I have this rather frustrating issue that I have no idea why it shows up. Some of the ceiling textures in my map have this ugly behavior in which they appear to be horribly stretched either in the left or right direction. However, the odd part is that while one ceiling texture might be stretched another one which has the exact same texture looks correct (turns out it wasn't really the same texture -- only my own stupidity!).

Strangely enough while everything looks fine in DB64 same can't be said while you're in the actual game -- I've uploaded a couple of pictures demonstrating how it looks.

With this texture everything is stretched and ugly...

... and with another one everything looks fine.

Thanks for any help.

In EX any textures used as a flat have to be 64 by 64 to show up right. Any textures that aren't that size will be stretched/squeezed by EX to display at 64x64. The ceiling texture in your first two shots is rectangular, thus the stretching.

Unfortunately the editor doesn't show this behavior which is why it looks different than in game.

If you still want to use those textures as ceiling or floor, the only workaround would be to make an edit of the textures which is 64x64 and use that in your wad instead.

Btw Kaiser, do you have any plans to make non 64x64 flats display in the editor like they will in game?

Loke:
Ah, that makes perfect sense. I thought my game had gone mad or something -- heh, now I can get that out of my mind. Thanks a lot of the quick response.
